Merlot
Merlot is by far the most widely planted grape of the entire Bordeaux region, and is loved for its easy-to-drink qualities. Lower in tannins than Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot wines tend to be soft, fruity and smooth. Better vintages have long aging potential, but most are ready to drink within 4-8 years. Like all reds, for an ideal tasting experience, wine should be served slightly below room temperature.

Give Merlot a Chance!
"I'm not drinking any ****ing Merlot!" - Miles (Paul Giamatti), from the movie, Sideways. Well, we have to admit...our consumption of Merlot took a hit after watching Sideways, and really for no good reason! Merlot is a delicious and versatile varietal with a fantastic ability to blend. Louis Krieger, the wine buyer (and all-around great guy) at The Wine Gallery in Brookline, re-introduces us to Merlot and by the end of the segment, we are craving a glass...Enjoy!
